  • What types of anesthesia / ventilators do you manufacture?

Mallard Medical specializes in manufacturing advanced ventilator/anesthesia machines for both large and small animals. Our systems are designed to meet the unique physiological needs of a wide range of species—from small animals to large equine patients—ensuring precise control, safety, and reliability in surgical and critical care settings.

In addition to our standard models, we also offer MRI-compatible and MRI-conditional ventilators tailored to meet the requirements of imaging environments. Every unit is engineered for performance, durability, and ease of integration into veterinary practices, hospitals, and research facilities.

  • What sets your ventilators apart from others?

Ascending Bellows System: We use ascending bellows, which offer a visible, safety-enhancing indicator of proper ventilation and help prevent unnoticed circuit disconnections—unlike descending bellows that can continue cycling even in failure.

  • Are your ventilators compatible with other anesthesia equipment?

Yes, our ventilators are designed to be compatible with a wide range of anesthesia equipment.

They seamlessly integrate with various vaporizers, breathing circuits, and monitoring systems, ensuring flexibility in diverse veterinary settings. Whether upgrading an existing setup or outfitting a new facility, our machines are built for easy integration and reliable performance.

  • How easy is it to set up and operate your ventilators?

Our ventilators are extremely easy to set up and operate. Each unit is designed with user-friendly controls, intuitive interfaces, and clear labeling to streamline operation—even for teams new to the equipment.

We also provide a comprehensive user manual, access to free support videos, and offer personalized training sessions at no cost upon request. From unboxing to first case, we ensure your team feels confident and supported every step of the way.

  • Can your ventilators be used for long-duration procedures?

Yes, our ventilators are well-suited for long-duration procedures.

Using the Large Absorber, the system can typically run continuously for 4 to 8 hours, depending on the size of the animal and the fresh gas flow rate. This makes our machines ideal for extended surgical or imaging procedures, especially in equine and large animal applications.

  • How is ventilation pressure, volume and time adjusted on your ventilator?

How Ventilation Pressure, Volume, and Time Are Adjusted
    • Pressure: Set using the black regulator on the front panel and monitored via the built-in pressure gauge.
    • Volume (Large Animal Mode): Controlled by adjusting inspiratory time, which can be set between 0.1 to 3.0 seconds.
    • Volume (Small Animal Mode): Tidal volume is set manually, while timing and pressure settings still apply for fine-tuned control.

This system allows for precise, species-appropriate ventilation across a wide range of animals.

  • What safety features are included in your ventilators? (e.g., alarms, fail-safes, etc.)

    Ventilator Safety Features
    • Low Gas Pressure Alarm (Electric Models): Includes both audio and visual alerts to notify the operator of any drop in supply pressure.
    • Manual Ventilation Button: All models feature a manual push-button for emergency ventilation in case of power loss or to deliver extra breaths when needed.

These built-in safety measures ensure consistent performance and give clinicians confidence during both routine and critical procedures.

  • How do your ventilators ensure consistent and safe airflow for equine patients?

Ensuring Consistent and Safe Airflow for Equine Patients

Mallard ventilators are microprocessor-controlled systems, delivering precise and consistent ventilation tailored to animal needs. Key safety features include:

    • Stable, programmable breath cycles for accurate, repeatable airflow
    • Low gas pressure warning circuit to alert operators when tank levels are low
    • User-friendly controls that simplify adjustments without compromising safety

This combination of advanced control and built-in alerts ensures reliable performance during even the most demanding equine procedures.

  • Are your ventilators certified to meet veterinary or medical safety standards?

Veterinary & Medical Safety Standards Compliance

Mallard ventilators and anesthesia machines have been trusted in the veterinary field for over 40 years, with a strong track record of safety, reliability, and performance.

We’ve recently acquired MR Certification, confirming that our systems meet safety standards for use in MRI environments.

Our machines are specifically designed to meet the rigorous demands of veterinary applications, including in hospitals, research labs, and advanced imaging suites.

  • What backup systems are in place in case of a power failure?

    Power Failure Backup Systems

Mallard ventilators include built-in safeguards to ensure continuous operation in the event of a power outage:

    • Power Loss Alarm: The control box triggers an audio-visual alert if electrical power is lost.
    • Manual Ventilation Mode: All units are equipped with a manual push-button that allows the clinician to continue ventilation uninterrupted for the duration of the procedure.

This backup system ensures that even during unexpected outages, your patient remains stable and supported.

  • What is the expected lifespan of your ventilators?

    Expected Lifespan of Mallard Ventilators

Our ventilators are built for long-lasting performance. Many of our customers are still using units that are over 30 years old. With proper care and regular maintenance, you can expect a lifespan of 20 to 30 years from a Mallard ventilator.
